This is a very clear view of the Port of Felixstowe with the Languard terminal in the lower left and Trinity container terminal in the background. The original dock basin is seen in the centre of the image.
Many of the activities carried out by the port can be seen in this image including the movement and storage of containers and the unloading and storage of oil products (white storage tanks). The Ro-Ro terminal is seen in the lower left. The tanker jetty for the oil tankers can also be seen in the centre left. The port covers an extensive area and is due to expand westwards into the area presently occupied by Trimley marshes seen in the distance. The wide mouth of the Orwell estuary is also clearly seen as the river flows eastwards from Ipswich along with the Shotley peninsula towards Chelmondiston. |
