This is a close up view of a container ship berthed at the Trinity container terminal in the Port of Felixstowe.
Two large gantry cranes can be seen lifting the containers from ships. In the background is the container park. Containers are carried to this area then placed in the correct area for storage by mobile cranes. The use of containers at this modern port means that the turn around time of a large ship is only a few hours. This terminal was built after the original Languard terminal. The port hopes to expand further up the Orwell estuary (left) into Trimley marshes which are at present an internationally important nature reserve. |
