Felixstowe - Docks West (16 / D20):

Felixstowe - Docks West

This is a view over the western part of Felixstowe docks and the south western part of the towns residential area. The road cutting across the image is the A14 dual carriageway which enters the port just out of the shot on the left. The road forms a natural division between the port area and the town.

The port itself covers an extensive area and extends further left as the Languard container terminal. Large warehouses and areas of container storage can be seen in the background as this is Britains largest port. The quayside cranes can be seen in the distance along with ships berthed at the Trinity terminal the ports main facility for handling containers.

Further development of the dock is to take place to the west of this area at Trimley marshes which is at present an internationally important bird habitat.
