This is the inner harbour of Lake Lothing, Lowestoft. The town centre is at the top of the image while the outer harbour, Esplanade, and marina are just out of frame to the right.
This is primarily an industrial area associated with ship building and repairs. The Haven Bridge is seen in the top right. This lifts up when ships enter and leave the port. The open area in the bottom centre was formerly railway sidings serving the port the railway having been dismantled. The railway line to the towns station can be seen in front of the line of houses in the background.
The industrial area continues on both sides of the lake with yacht manufacture, paper storage and offshore gas supplies. |
