Lowestoft - Lake Lothing 1:

Lowestoft - Lake Lothing 1

This is part of the inner harbour to the south west of Lowestoft town centre. Industry on both sides of the river can clearly be seen.

The area on this side of the harbour is occupied by the Brooke Yacht shipyard. Here you can see the extensive buildings and dry dock facilities used for the construction of large ocean going motor yachts for the luxury market. Ship building was once a major activity in this area but has greatly declined over the last few decades with the reduction of the fishing industry.

On the far side of Lake Lothing can be seen the Shell North Sea exploration base which is used for the storage of oil and gas equipment. To the east of here there is access to the North sea via the lifting bridge. To the west is Oulton Broad and Mutford Bridge.
