This shows the whole site of the British Sugar factory which lies to the east of the town centre and A14 (lower left). Running across the lower part of the image is the railway line which links the Port of Felixstowe with the Midlands.
In the factory locally grown sugar beet is processed into refined sugar. Within the site the beet is stored, cleaned, sliced, processed and the sugar extracted. Sugar beet pulp is produced as a by-product of this process and this is returned to farmers as animal feed.
In the image you can see processing facilities, silos for the storage of refined sugar and lagoons for the storage of waste wash water. This factory has been developed here for a number of locational factors as was the factory at Ipswich. |
