Kessingland - Holiday Camp (11 / E25):

Kessingland - Holiday Camp

This is one of Pontins' holiday camps which lies between Kessingland and Pakefield to the south of Lowestoft.

The regimented layout of the camp can be seen along with the theatre, dance hall and sporting facilities to suit various ages and interests.

Surrounding the site is what was once open countryside but which over the years since the camp was founded has become more and more a part of the town. On the other side of the A12, which passes the front gate, is the mound of a now closed refuse pit. Pakefield industrial estate is to the top left and the new out of town Safeways food store is located next to the roundabout on the A12. This is within sight of the passing holiday traffic which has only a few miles to go before reaching the Broads at Oulton Broad.

An important feature of this and other holiday camps, such as at Felixstowe, is its nearness to the beach. Holidays and the seaside mean pretty much the same thing to English people!
