Stowmarket football ground and car park are seen in the middle of the image. The A14 dual carriageway cuts across diagonally and close observation reveals that this section of the road is a viaduct supported on concrete stilts above the low lying and marshy ground next to the River Gipping. This river flows diagonally from the top right and includes sluice gates in this area. The main Ipswich to Norwich railway line can also be seen at the bottom right of the image.
The large roundabout at the top provides access to and from Stowmarket town centre. The residential area in the top left is relatively recent and forms the northern outskirts to the town. |
