Ipswich - Airport (5 / 5):

Ipswich - Airport

Ipswich airport presently lies to the south east of the town centre adjacent to the Ransomes industrial estate and several housing estates.

The grass runways are mainly used by small private aircraft for pleasure flights. The airport is regularly used as a centre for parachuting.

It has been suggested that this land would be better used for building houses as there is a great demand for new houses in the town. This is in conflict with the airport users who would like to see the airport developed further in the future. Other places, away from the town, have been suggested as possible sites for a new airport.

(The airport has since been closed).
