Fornham All Saints - Church (2 / 25):

Fornham All Saints - Church

This picture shows part of a the village of Fornham All Saints which has developed into a dormitory settlement. It lies just outside Bury St Edmunds. The original cottages and farms have been converted into expensive executive homes and the traditional village life has died out. Shops have closed and the school got smaller as the structure of the population changes from poor families with lots of children to richer families with few children.

In the picture old farms and cottages with thatched roofs can be seen along with newer houses of various types and ages infilling the land around the Church. Note the large amount of open space between the houses and that the local authority houses and bungalows do not have built in garages like the very new owner occupied houses in the south of the picture.
