Icklingham - Village (4 / A8):

Icklingham - Village

The village Icklingham on the A1101 from Bury St Edmunds to Mildenhall lies parallel to the River Lark which is the dark blue line in the centre of the image. The road and settlement are situated above the level of flooding at the edge of the flood-plain of this wide flat valley.

Icklingham is an example of a linear development the settlement having developed along the line of the old routeway which naturally follows the course of the River Lark. In the top centre of the image Icklingham Mill can be seen beside the river as the lighter buildings.
