This is a view of the beach at Kessingland to the south of Lowestoft. In the bottom left hand corner the waves can be seen approaching the beach at an oblique angle. The process of longshore drift has carried material from further north and deposited it along the beach as part of the Ness. Successive high tides and storms have created ridges that can be picked out in the sand and shingle on the beach. The beach material will eventually finds its way along the coast to Orford Ness.
Careful observation reveals fishing boats and their slipways on the beach and holiday homes and caravans just inland. |
