Long Melford - High Street (2 / C28):

Long Melford - High Street

Long Melford main street stretches for over 2 km - the longest village in England. The village originally developed as a linear settlement along the main routeway (A134) which links Sudbury and Bury St. Edmunds. To the north the village leads to a broad green and village church.

Long Melford Hall is just visible at the northern end of the village. The large light coloured area to the left of the High Street is the Fleetwood Caravan works.

Modern housing developments can be seen to have extended the village which is surrounded by arable farmland.

On the far right is the disused railway line that also linked Bury St. Edmunds with Sudbury.
