These maltings are found on the A134 between Long Melford and Sudbury. They were originally alongside the railway line, running diagonally across the picture. The railway line is now disused due to the growth of road transport and the tracks have been removed for many years. The maltings were built for the production of malt from barley for the beer industry but have been closed down and converted into expensive flats and apartments.
The old railway line is presently being used as a coach depot, the coaches of which can be seen on the right hand side. |
