This is near Raydon to the south east of Hadleigh and was taken in late July. Some fields have already been harvested. The gold coloured fields are wheat and the green are a late crop of oil seed rape. These arable fields are not particularly large by East Anglian standards but it is possible to see where some hedge rows have been removed in the past to make the fields larger. Notice their unusual shapes. Many farms in Suffolk receive a subsidy for the crops that they grow, without which they would find it difficult to make a living.
The very straight diagonal line is the disused E.U.H.J.R. railway line that used to link Hadleigh with the main line to London. Part of this is now a nature walk but as can be seen, some farmers have reclaimed the land back to productive farmland. |
