Sudbury - Ballingdon Bridge (1 / C19):

Sudbury - Ballingdon Bridge

The settlement in the foreground is Ballingdon village on the A134 which leads on to Sudbury. This was built to one side of the flood-plain of the River Stour that flows south eastwards across the water meadows in the centre of the photograph. Notice the linear development of housing along the sides of the main routeway.

The disused railway line can clearly be seen as the line of green trees cutting across the middle of the image. This was closed after the Beeching enquiry in the 1960's and now forms part of the 'Valley Walk'.

In the top left the very flat flood-plain is used for grazing as water meadows. Sudbury Town football ground is clearly seen in the top right along with the south western part of Sudbury town centre.
