Tattingstone - Village (19 / D26):

Tattingstone - Village

This is Alton Water reservoir built in the 1960's to store water for Ipswich. The village of Tattingstone is close to the banks of the reservoir. Some houses were flooded, the main road diverted and farmland lost when the reservoir was created. A bridge (left) had to be constructed maintain village links with its neighbours. St Mary's Hospital buildings can be seen in front of the bridge. This was once a workhouse and then a home for the elderly but is now disused.
