Thorpeness village, to the north of Aldeburgh, was built as an Edwardian holiday village. Many of the houses appear to be older than they really are.
The 'Mere' can be seen in the top left. This freshwater lake attracts many tourists who hire boats and punts in the summer months. The beach in the foreground in made of sand and shingle. The row of houses stand raised above the sea in an exposed position. Only the wide beach protects them form erosion. Some of the houses are holiday homes that are rented out in the summer. |
