This rather dull image appears to have been taken under very poor conditions but with some imagination you can make out the eastern part of the settlement of Walberswick. The harbour area of the River Blyth which is flowing out into the North Sea is in the bottom right.
The area in the foreground is called 'The Flats' and is the home to the annual British National Crabbing Championships.
The village, the site of the old monastery (centre) and various drainage channels can be seen.
The River Blyth harbour along with lines of moored boats can be seen on the right. The buildings on the Southwold side (right) of the river are used by fishermen for the storage and repair of equipment. |
