Waldringfield - Village (20 / I20 / 7):

Waldringfield - Village

This area of arable farmland is surrounding the village of Waldringfield to the east of Ipswich. The light sandy soil in this area is perfect for growing potatoes and other root vegetables. The field in the centre has been covered with polythene sheeting. This helps the soil warm up quickly and encourages early growth of the crop in the spring. The extra cost involved in this can be justified by the higher prices the farmer will be paid in the early part of the season as shoppers have to pay a premium for early goods. Compare this with areas of arable crops closer to harvest.
