This is a view of part of the Shotley Peninsula looking towards Chelmondiston. The Orwell estuary, Orwell bridge and Ipswich are all in the distance.
Most of the image is taken up with fields of arable crops such as wheat and Barley which are starting to ripen when the image was taken in early June. Fully ripe crops are more golden in colour.
Some areas of deciduous woodland can also be seen. It is interesting to note the lack of hedges along field boundaries. At one time all fields would have had hedgerows like the ones in the lower right but these have been removed to make larger fields which are more suitable for more mechanisation and larger farm vehicles. |
