This shows the southern part of Hadleigh town centre with many of the older buildings along the High street. To the east of this lies Magdalen road which was only built in the 1970's as a relief road to take traffic out of the High street. A large car park can be seen in the top right of the area. In the bottom left and right old industrial buildings, such as the Georgian maltings can be seen some of which have now been converted into flats.
The large Mediaeval church is typical of many Suffolk churches paid for with wealth generated by the wool trade. Hadleigh shows many features you would expect of a typical market town but you can also see numerous examples of modern infill and development. Hadleigh has a large industrial estate alongside it's northern by-pass. |
