This is the Station Road area close to the town centre of Hadleigh. This semi derelict site in the lower right is the old railway station, the branch line once linking the town with the mainline to London and Ipswich. Like many other parts of the railway network this station was closed after the Beeching enquiry.
The large buildings in the bottom right were built as Georgian maltings but up until recently were part of the Wilsons grain storage facilities. This area has now been cleared and 70 new houses built in their place. The 1960's housing development of Clopton Gardens can be seen in the lower left while the zigzag pattern in the centre is part of Taylor Road development of the 1970's. The latest residential development in the town can be seen in the top right along with St Mary's School and the swimming pool in Coxes Park. |
