Hadleigh - Town South East (9 / C1):

Hadleigh - Town South East

This is to the south east of the town centre. Note the size of the school site. This is an ideal location for a modern comprehensive school because of the availability of cheap, flat land. Modern housing developments based on the mobility given to families by individual car ownership and good access to trunk roads (in this case 15 minutes from the A12, 25 minutes from Ipswich railway station and good access to the rest of Suffolk) is now starting to surround the site and putting pressure on farmers to sell their land for further development.

Such 'greenfield sites' are particularly sought after by housing developers as large areas of relatively cheap land are available. There are plans to build 100's of new houses on the right of this image, from the industrial estate in the north to Town House fruit farm in the south. Many people feel this would completely change the character of the town.
