Ipswich - Buttermarket (4 / 11):

Ipswich - Buttermarket

The whole of the Buttermarket is clearly seen in this photograph. This shopping mall is found to the south of the Cornhill and C.B.D. and provides undercover shopping and car parking facilities.

The building is on a number of levels and makes extensive use of glass to keep the area as bright and attractive as possible. Air conditioning and security staff make the development inviting and safe for shoppers.

There is some concern that the development may cause other parts of the town centre to fall into disuse as shops relocate to the new development. However, this does not seem likely at present as many of the shops in the development are still empty.

Access to the underground car parking from Dogs Head street is seen along with St Stephens church which, after being redundant for a long time, has now been turned into a tourist information centre for the town. Notice that the photograph was taken before the complex was complete as the main entrance is still being finished.
