The photograph shows the pattern of post-war local authority housing to the north west of Ipswich town centre.

Notice the wide roads, pavements, large gardens and uniform house style typical of this large development. Even though this was a carefully planned development no provision was made for car ownership. Space for parking cars and garages was not allowed for though some people have made changes to their gardens to include these. Compare this with newer developments at Westley and Mildenhall.
