This is a close up image of part of the village of Lavenham. The main north/south street is clearly seen. This is fronted by many mediaeval buildings, many of which would once have been shops but most of these have now been converted into houses. From the air this gives a very linear appearance to this street just like that at Ballingdon. Notice how many of the buildings are rather narrow and have extensions built out to the rear to increase their size. Like most old towns, Lavenham was not designed with the car in mind and has obvious parking problems along the side of the High Street. This is made worse in Lavenham as it is a particularly historic and attractive settlement that is visited by thousands of tourists every year. |
