Lowestoft - Rotterdam Road (8 / 11):

Lowestoft - Rotterdam Road

This is the area between Normanston and Roman Hill to the west of Lowestoft town centre. The main feature of this image is the 'back to back' housing pattern which is typical of the Victorian period as seen in towns such as Ipswich. The houses are typical in that they are terraced, the house fronts straight into the road with only a narrow footpath and they have small back gardens which back onto the next row of houses. The houses may be separated by a narrow alley. At the top of the image are the adult training centre buildings.

Parking is obviously a problem as the streets were designed well before the car was even first thought of. At this time everyone would have worked close to where they lived.
