Southwold - The Green (7 / 18):

Southwold - The Green

Southwold is a Georgian seaside resort and remains almost as it was originally planned. It is famous for its quaint unspoilt look and is visited by large numbers of tourists every year. Many of the buildings that front onto the beach are hotels and guest houses. Of the 2,000 inhabitants, 50% are over 60.

Every sixth house is a holiday or second home which may be let to holiday makers in the summer season. Because of the demand for houses in this area the house prices are much higher than might be expected, forcing young people to move away. Most tourists are attracted to the harbour area and sea front where many beach huts can be seen.
