This picture shows a detail of the housing just north of the A131 at Sudbury Hall. The houses have mostly been built by the local authority and date from the late 1960's when Sudbury, Haverhill and other East Anglian towns were expanded to house the "overspill" population from London. At this time new towns were being built such as Harlow in Essex. Other settlements were being expanded by building additional neighbourhood units for about 6000 people.
The housing in this part of Sudbury is part of this expansion at this time. Notice how the houses at the top of the image front onto green areas with footpaths. This feature was to make the place safer for the people living there. |
