Sudbury - The Mill Hotel:

Sudbury - The Mill Hotel

The white building in the centre of the photograph is the is the Mill Hotel. This is built at the edge of the flood-plain of the River Stour the water meadows of which can be seen in the foreground. Notice the high level of water in the river which has caused some localised flooding. The river was diverted at this point to provide power for turning the millstones to grind the grain into flour. However the old building has been converted into a hotel as the mill fell into disuse. Tourists are attracted to the historic town, the beautiful Constable countryside of south Suffolk.

On the left hand side notice the Walnut Tree Hospital, while in the background you can see the Vanner Silk works. On the right Ballingdon road leads from Sudbury town centre towards Halstead.
