Woodbridge - Town Centre 2 (6 / 29):

Woodbridge - Town Centre 2

This is a close up view of The Thoroughfare, the main shopping street in Woodbridge. The buildings in this old town centre are closely packed although space has been made for a central car park. Some older buildings have been demolished to create a modern library (left of centre) and a completely new pedestrianised shopping precinct (top left). The small shopping development of Gobbits Yard is seen to the right of centre which blends in well with the character of this old market town.

Notice the school in the lower part of the image. Woodbridge is visited by many tourists who are particularly attracted to the towns quayside and marina.

The prosperity of the town has been affected by the closure of the American air bases at RAF Woodbridge and RAF Bentwaters as a result of the end of the cold war.
