Maximising School-based ICT training

Dear Colleague,

As a result of the success of our twilights this term and requests from head teachers and teachers to extend this type of support, we are considering a more flexible approach to in-service ICT training for staff during the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms of 2003/4. We will continue to provide daytime courses at a variety of venues throughout the county and twilights in the PDCs, but added to this we will be offering School-based sessions. The content of these sessions will be as follows:

The Scope:

The training will be school based. Either in your school for your staff or at a local pyramid school near you for teachers in your pyramid.

The Focus:

Can be anything related to ICT, but popular topics have shown to be in three main areas:

·        Single focussed sessions that are software related such as: Clicker, Excel, Word or PowerPoint

·        Single themed sessions on: Data base work, Modelling, Control, Art and ICT, or Music and ICT

·        Longer focuses using two or more sessions on such things as the use of digital video in the curriculum

You may also wish to consider a session of your own design which we can support you in, using either your own equipment or our mobile training suite of laptops that carry a full range of software, most of which is already on your schools computers. We can also support you in this way with digital movie and still cameras, printers and scanners, microscopes and control equipment.

The Benefits:

There is a cost, but that is only the normal advisory service costing for an ICT advisory service member, and sessions would normally be from 3:30 – 5:30. You have no other costs to meet, (e.g. no supply cover, no travel, you can share the cost with the pyramid, and have more control over content). To this end, we would suggest that you make the sessions part of your directed time.

Our role:

·        We will use appropriate software with staff to help them deliver the NC for ICT in their teaching phase

·        Provide examples of and give training to enable teachers to make materials appropriate to their teaching

·        Share ideas for developing expertise and raising levels of ICT in your school

·        Provide written materials to support areas key to your staff’s professional development and their teaching of ICT in the Curriculum

If you wish to discuss this service or any other related ICT matter then you can contact either myself, Brian Podmore or Geoff Rushbrook or alternatively complete the returns slip provided.
