Thorpe Park is saying a big 'Thank You' to customers by casting it's magic wand over four special charities in 1997. They have been chosen because their activities have a particular impact on the lives of people who most visit the attraction.
The four are Tommy's Campaign, which funds vital research into the causes of premature birth, miscarriage and stillbirth; The Queen Elizabeth's Foundation for Disabled People which helps those with physical disabilities to lead independent lives; Action Research, whose medical successes include the polio vaccine and the artificial hip; and the Variety Club, "the greatest children's charity in the world".
They are to enjoy a number of fund-raising days throughout the year and the campaign is to be launched with a massive Charity Marathon Party.
On that special day each charity will invite 250 guests on sponsored rides around the park. Everyone will have to do 25 rides.......that's 25,000 money raising high jinx for charity!
The figure 25 is an apt one for Thorpe Park. This year it expects to witness the 250 millionth ride since opening in 1979. Someone is in for a big surprise!
Although Thorpe Park has opted to give extra care to it's four charities, there's no need for others to lose out. Schools and organisations who made group visits to the park last year can still count on free tickets, and other gifts for selected local charity events.
