Achieving Equality

There is a specific statutory duty under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 for schools to assess and monitor the impact of their policies on pupils, staff and parents from 'different racial groups', and in particular, to monitor the attainment levels of pupils from these groups. The Act states that schools must have 'due regard to the need' to:
eliminate racial discrimination
promote equality of opportunity
promote good relations between persons of different racial groups. 'Different racial groups' can be interpreted widely to include all minority ethnic groups, including Travellers.

In order to help Suffolk's schools to understand the Act and implement the appropriate assessment and monitoring processes, and also to realise best-practice towards achieving race equality, we provide three key resources, as well as being able to offer advice on an ad hoc basis.
